Top 5 RV spots on the Central Coast of California!

My fully renovated 1974 Ideal Travel Trailer

Hello RV'ers!

Tucked midway between the two big west coast cities of San Francisco and Los Angeles is a hidden gem we call the Central Coast! This geographical area is becoming famous for several reasons, including the most ideal climate year round, (50 degrees calls for parkas around here) having a ton of "microclimates," and beautiful scenery to appease almost any traveler! Right on the Pacific Coast, home to Pismo Beach, Avila Beach and Port San Luis, there are an abundance of vacation spots perfect for you and your RV!

First up Port San Luis Harbor District!

If you want to be able to wake up to the ocean air, this location puts you within in feet of beach sand with views to die for! They have everything from boondocking spots to full hookups that look out over the bay. The beach is very calm making it wonderful for children and it has a dog beach where they can run free with no leashes!

They have Mermaid Market just before the pier walk in case you forget anything, along with two restaurants, (Mersea's out on the pier and Fat Cat's just before the pier entrance) both super tasty! So much recreation is also offered here: whale watching excursions, sportfishing tours along with kayak and SUP board rentals!

Avila Beach is just a 1 minute drive where you will find an awesome boardwalk with live music and farmers market on Fridays as well as many small shops, wine tasting, eateries and bars!

Oceano Dunes SVRA

This is such a unique area that has 1,500 acres featuring beach and sand dune riding! Thousands of off highway vehicle enthusiasts enjoy the beach dunes most weekends year round! It is a motorcycle, four-wheel-drive all-terrain vehicle and dune buggy use area right on the beach and RV camping is allowed on the beach as well!

They offer primitive beach and dune camping with no designated campsites so groups commonly create a circle arrangement with RVs to make a large campsite common area in the middle for bombfires and protection from the wind coming off the ocean water just feet away!

They have ATV rentals right on the beach making it convenient to have some fun on the dunes without having to haul your own toys in.

Cava Robles RV Resort

Cava Robles is such a luxurious RV park just on the outside of beautiful Paso Robles. The perfect base camp for exploring all the region has to offer, including over 250 wineries in Paso Robles, gourmet dining, nightlife and shopping with a laid-back culture. It is also just around the corner from the Ravive Waterpark!

They have options for everybody, full hookups for RVs and even if you do not have an RV they have little tiny homes available to rent for up to 6 people! With your stay the amenties they include are unreal! Access to two pools and jucuzzi spas, splash pads, bocci ball and cornhole, walking trails, dog parks, laundry facilities, movies in the park, golf cart and bike rentals just to name a few!!

This really is luxury glamping that may not be for all but definitely worth a stay to feel very pampered!!

Flying Flags RV Resort & Campground Buellton

This location is mid way between Pismo beach and Santa Barbara in yet another beautiful wine country, offering large pull thru full hookup sites along with cabin/cottage rentals as well! They have amazing amenities with playgrounds for the kids, pools and fire pit areas. The Sideways Lounge is a nice 21+ getaway with local wines and craft cocktails. Pool cabanas are available to rent along with bocce ball courts and a general store is on site in case you forget any necessities!

Pismo Coast Village

If you want a feel of community, here it is! Located just minutes from downtown Pismo Beach this RV park has the ideal location to get around to all of the shopping, eateries and bars Pismo Beach has to offer! They have a general store, restaurant, pool and private walking trails that lead directly to the ocean from the park! Every year in May they also host an Annual Vintage Trailer Rally where people come from all over to showcase beautifully restored vintage trailers (right up my alley)!

Slowly this little gem area of California is getting busier and more well known, but honestly I can't believe how many people still are unaware of these locations! Whether you want ocean views, rolling hills, wine tasting or ATV riding, this little slice of the California coast has it all!
