Three Underrated Northern California RV Trip Destinations

RV season is here, and it is time to start planning your next camping trip! The sandy beaches of Southern California are well known as a summertime destination but what about the northern part of the Golden State? Northern California is home to some of the most beautiful and unique landscapes in the country. There are so many places to explore no matter what sort of RV road trip you are looking to have. Here are three underrated Northern California destinations perfect for your next RV trip.

Healdsburg, CA

Healdsburg is a beautiful, small town located in the heart of wine country in Sonoma County. Located just 90 miles north of San Francisco and 20 miles north of Santa Rosa, Healdsburg is the ideal destination for foodies and wine lovers. Explore the quaint downtown filled with farm to table restaurants, local wine bars, and chic boutiques. Healdsburg is home to dozens of vineyards and wineries including J Vineyards and Ferrari-Carano Vineyards. Rolling hills covered in vines for as far as the eye can see make for a beautiful backdrop for sipping a glass wine.

Are you wondering where to stay? Just up the road in Cloverdale is the Russian River RV Campground. This Thousand Trails park is located right on the Russian River and offers a beautiful, relaxing place to call home while you explore Healdsburg and beyond. Pacifica, CA

This beachside city is located on the Pacific Ocean about halfway between San Francisco and Half Moon Bay. This coastal gem offers natural beauty, serenity, yet is only 15 minutes from the hustle and bustle of the City by the Bay. Enjoy a day at the beach, take a hike, or head into San Fran for urban exploring. Public transportation makes it easy to get into San Francisco so you won’t have to worry about navigating tight streets and limited parking.

Despite the name, the San Francisco RV Resort is located in the heart of Pacifica and is a great place to park your mobile home on wheels. The Resort is located seaside on cliffs overlooking the ocean. Sleep with your windows open to hear the soothing sounds of the waves crashing below. The San Francisco RV Resort is just a short walk from the grocery store, restaurants, bus stop, and even the local brewery. Amenities include full hookups, large laundry room, clean facilities, pool, and playground for the little campers.

Trinidad, CA

Located in Humboldt County, 15 miles north of Arcata, and 20 miles south of Redwoods National & State Parks sits the quiet town of Trinidad. This seaside village offers some of the most spectacular natural beauty found on the California coast. Spend time exploring the tide pools at Trinidad State Beach, watch the seals from Patrick’s Point State Park, and eat as fresh as it gets seafood at one of the delicious restaurants in town. Make sure to plan at least one day to head up north to see the redwoods. These forests are home to some of the oldest and largest trees in the world and are sure to provide an experience like none other.
